Using the maps installed on the Garmin device (either the Garmin pre-installed ones or third party ones like our TT HD Top/Topo Pro maps) in BaseCamp is pretty straightforward, as long as you understand that the maps have to complete an initialisation before they will be usable in Basecamp. Only continue reading this page and it’s guidance, if the map is working fine on your Garmin device (or MicroSD or SD card in the Garmin device). If this is the case, you need to address that issue by either installing the map correctly, or by maybe re-formatting the MicroSD or SD card, or trying another card instead. If the map is not working on either the internal storage or a MicroSD or SD card in the Garmin device, then the issue is NOT with BaseCamp either the card or the map has become corrupted or is not correctly installed. Make sure the Opacity slider is set correctly or the map will be invisible!.The Detail setting should be set to 5 (otherwise not all the available data will be shown). If you create a Route without using one of QMapShacks own routing methods (offline or online) you will end up with straight lines (as the crow flies) routes. The routing in the IMG file is ignored, so creating a route in QMapShack will not use the routing data in the IMG file. Most POIs are selectable, but some are not rendered correctly (not sure why).DEM data in the map is ignored (you can use QMapShacks own DEM features instead). It will not read BaseCamp versions of the maps, only the GPS versions. Please note: That although it pretty much renders the map the same way as on a Garmin device (or in BaseCamp) there are some limitations in the way that QMapShack works, these include: Here are a few screen shots of QMapShack (running in Windows 10) showing my British Isles map: Once installed it can be set to read the folder where you have map files in Garmin IMG format (single map files, not single map tiles). There are also Windows (64 bit) versions and Mac versions available too although I would suggest using BaseCamp instead as it offers more features on those operating systems. for Ubuntu you would use the following command (as root): You can install QMapShack via your usual way on Linux, e.g. You can find out more about QMapShack via the links below: The GPS version of the maps will work in the OpeSource desktop application known as QMapShack (this is the nearest that you can get to Basecamp on Linux, without installing WINE and trying to get BaseCamp to work via that).

Most manufacturers say that you need three 8′ (2.8m) ground rods pounded into the ground, spaced several feet (2m) apart. Is your electric fence grounded correctly?Įlectric fence chargers need to be connected to the ground with a long metal rod. If you answered YES – that you once had a good charge (like the picture of the fence charger above), but over time your voltage has dropped, then it should be fixable. Normally you want the brace wire to be on the inside compared to other fence wires. If you aren’t careful with how you route it, this wire will lie against your fence wires (causing a short). ^^ In particular, be careful how you string the brace wire on your corner posts. It has good advice for designing an electric-ready high tensile fence. Check this document by Kencove which I used to build my own fence. This may not be fixable without rebuilding some of your fence. If you answered NO – that you never had a good charge on your fence, then you need to ask whether your wires are insulated properly, or whether there are major design flaws. Horses will avoid the fence down to 0.5 or even lower. To put things into perspective, these fence chargers are effective deterrence against cattle down to a reading of 2.0. My fence charger showed 14.1, which I think translates to 14,100 volts. When I first put in my fence, I had almost no faults. First question: When you put in the fence originally, was the charge good? Here are all the ways my fence has broken, and how I fixed it, and how I am trying to prevent future problems. The good news? This is a great excuse to go on a walk with your dogs (while carrying a bundle of tools with you). Between trees falling on it, weeds growing up it, lightning striking it, and wear and tear on the insulators, you can expect to maintain it a few hours each month. It is a constant struggle to keep an electric fence working. These are my lessons learned about how to troubleshoot electric fence problems. I put it up myself and have been troubleshooting this electric fence for about three years now. I have approximately 20 acres enclosed by a high tensile electric fence. The PDA is a really great addition, giving you the option to gather up all yellow-highlighted collectibles within eye-shot, while the weapons, grabbable Chernobylite shards, and story-based clues emanate green, setting them apart from the craftable resources. With your resource-finding PDA in hand, you traverse the remains of Chernobyl looking for electronic parts, metal plates for armor crafting, ammo, food, and herbs/fungi for healing salves. One of, if not the, most important aspects of Chernobylite is gathering. All of the gathering and companion-getting leads up to a final heist, but that’s for you to experience! Let’s Gather Together! You can set up your companions to either rest in the base for the day, or you can assign them to certain missions which can provide rewards like health items, ammo, food, and much more. The other great element of its gameplay is the mixture of Open-World gameplay, as well as the fun addition of RPG themes. One of the coolest elements gameplay-wise is the mixture of its non-linear storytelling, giving you the option to go back in time and make significant changes to the story for better or worse. Gameplay-wise Chernobylite fantastically stands out. The addition to the small/medium/large clumps of Chernobylite brings such a beautiful and radiant cosmic green to the aesthetics. The use of 3D-scanned environments from inside the actual Exclusion Zone adds a whole new layer of dread and sadness to the playthrough, just knowing we’re traversing an environment where many people had died and even more had their lives uprooted and ruined. Visually Chernobylite is so incredibly pleasing, from its bleak and barren wasteland to the lush radiated forests, to the cosmically colorful Chernobylite ruins. ( Steam)īefore we get into it, I want to talk about two things: aesthetics and gameplay. Set in the hyper-realistic, 3D-scanned wasteland of Chernobyl’s Exclusion Zone, explore a non-linear storyline in your search to uncover the truth of your tortured past. I soon became overwhelmed with the amount of horror content I was playing and decided to take a step back…that was until the opportunity to play Chernobylite came along. My quarantine was full of motorcycling my way through the wasteland with Deacon St. If the pandemic did anything for me, it would probably be giving me the opportunity to play tons of horror video games I had wanted to play for a long time, games I wanted to replay, and new games to look forward to. Your blood group is determined based on the presence or absence of certain substances, called blood group antigens, on the surface of your red blood cells (RBCs). Research suggests that people with blood group O have a lower risk of heart diseases and memory problems (including dementia) than the rest of the population. O-positive and CMV-negative blood type is the safest blood type that can be transfused to immunocompromised newborns.Īlthough O-positive people can donate blood to people with any positive blood type, they can only receive blood from O-positive and O-negative (O−) people. The O-positive blood type is preferred because it has minimal risk of reactions and because it is more readily available than the O-negative blood group.Ĭytomegalovirus ( CMV)-negative people with an O-positive blood group are also called “heroes for babies.” CMV negative means those individuals who have not been exposed to cytomegalovirus. This may be done in patients with severe injuries such as road traffic accidents and other emergencies.During emergencies in patients with unknown blood groups requiring blood transfusion, O-positive blood is the preferred type to be transfused. It is, thus, also the blood type whose shortage may occur often owing to its huge need. More than 80 percent of people have a positive blood type, making O-positive blood in high demand. People with blood group O-positive can donate blood to not only other O-positive people but also all other positive blood types (including A+, B+, and AB+). It is also the most needed blood type because it is most commonly required during blood transfusions.About 43 percent of Americans have an O blood type of which O-positive accounts for about 38 percent of the population.People with blood group O-positive can donate blood to other O-positive people, as well as all other positive blood types (A+, B+, and AB+).īlood group O-positive (O+) is the most common blood type among Americans. I’ve spent multiple turns laying industry tiles, biding my time until another player has no choice but to expand my direction.Īdditionally, as industry tiles increase in level, their values of income and victory points sway. Players are limited to two actions a turn, so this makes pacing and timing critical in Brass. If my opponent lays a canal in a location I have presence, now I can build in the location they’ve connected (provided I have the proper cards to do so). The neat thing about Brass is how you don’t use solely your own networks, but all other players’ networks. The game is all about becoming a rail baron, so it makes sense. In order to basically do anything in Brass, you need networks. You’ll need networks connecting to these areas in order to ship, which brings up Brass‘s most endearing mechanic: canals and rails. This is integral to making headway since each shipment allows you to flip your tiles, which grants income and victory points. Of course, you also need to worry about shipping your goods overseas or off the board. Players who spend less will go first in the next round, and big spenders are forced to wait. Furthermore, turn order is decided by how much money players spend. One game might allow you to focus closely in a few areas, building industry before other players, while other games might have you focused on establishing networks via canals and rails. One thing which makes Brass special is making the best of your hand. Born into families of old, rich, European money, players take loans and plot multiple turns ahead to take hold of valuable locations around the board.Įach action requires a card that matches your desired location, or at least networked adjacency to build a specific industry. Played over two eras, players must lay rail, establish industries, and make each coin count. Lancashire is the retold story of the classic Brass. At this point, I’ve logged a few plays of both new versions of Brass and I feel comfortable enough to give some impressions and critical analysis. I admit that I haven’t touched the original, but it’s long been on my list of “games to play.” I imagined Brass to be a long, smart, crunchy game of cash management and timely actions. Many hobbyists who’ve been gaming far longer than I can likely recall every intimate detail of each game of Brass they’ve logged. I'm always very anxious to be in those moments just before transition. Screenwriter Bergstein, a Jewish woman from a liberal family herself, wanted to capture that era in her movie. It was a time of personal changes for our girl, but a huge era of transition for the country as well. She was about to head off to college, where no doubt she'd be protesting the Vietnam War by senior year. The '60sīaby remembers her summer at Kellerman's as the summer before JFK was assassinated and the Beatles arrived on American shores. Just like with nostalgic memories, we can still visit the lake in our minds… and whenever Netflix recommends we watch the movie again. The Lodge still stands, though, and welcomes Dirty Dancing tourists to have their own real-life Kellerman's adventure, lake not included. It was almost entirely depleted of water in 2008 ( source). They should rename it Mountain Lodge because the iconic lake-made of Jerry Orbach's dad tears-is drying up. Ironically, the location used to film Dirty Dancing has all but faded from memory, proving that time always marches on when we're not looking.Īlthough Kellerman's is in the Catskills, the movie was filmed at Mountain Lake Lodge in Pembroke, VA. This speech shows us that although Baby can visit Kellerman's in her memory any time she wants, or by popping in the Blu-ray, she can never go back there physically. Max was right the Catskills resorts are almost gone now. It feels like it's all slipping away.ītw, Bubba and Zeyda are Yiddish terms for Grandma and Grandpa. You think kids want to come with their parents and take foxtrot lessons? Trips to Europe, that's what the kids want. It's not the changes so much this time, Tito. KELLERMAN: Bubba and Zeyda serving the first pasteurized milk to the boarders, through the war years when we didn't have any meat, through the Depression when we didn't have anything. Realizing the days of this type of resort are nearing its end, the owner looks back on everything the resort has seen, a short history lesson about the Catskills. We see this at the end, in a speech we call Kellerman's lament. Baby finds magic with Johnny, and, as the final song says, she has the time of her life.īut nostalgia always has a twinge of bittersweet. Her narration sets us up to see Kellerman's as a place of fun, once we look past the lameness on the surface. It has all the makings of being the worst family vacation ever for a 17-year-old: being stuck with your parents and doing a lot of lame activities with people who have more wrinkles than a pug's face.īut from the beginning, we can tell that Baby, who is narrating the opening from some point in the future, looks at this time nostalgically.īABY: That was before President Kennedy was shot, before the Beatles came, when I couldn't wait to join the Peace Corps, and I thought I'd never find a guy as great as my dad. In a different movie, Kellerman's would be the stuff of nightmares, more like the Overlook Hotel from The Shining than a fun family retreat. (It occurs to us that cruise ships are the new Catskills.) Some of the fancier places recruited famous musicians and comedians Jerry Seinfeld and Woody Allen had gigs there early in their careers. Middle class families went to the more upscale resorts known for their ridiculous amounts of food, entertainment, and goofy activities. Working class families went to the bungalows and cooked their own meals or ate cheap camp food. The area became known as the "Borscht Belt" because of its Jewish cultural connections, although anyone was welcome to stay there. In the first part of the 20th century, lots of hotels refused to rent to Jews, so they created their own communities. Moms and kids might go for a few weeks, with dads showing up on weekends. The Catskill Mountains in upstate New York were dotted with a thousand resorts in the '50s and '60s, from luxury hotels to boardinghouses and no-frills bungalows, that catered mostly to Jewish families escaping the hot New York city summers. (Although handful of resorts have claimed the honor of being the inspiration for Kellerman's.) Kellerman's is the quintessential Catskills Resort, and it defines a very particular culture, place, and time. Bergstein probably based Kellerman's on Grossinger's, the now extinct Catskills resort where she spent summers with her family in the 1950s and '60s. The nucleus is contained in a cell body or soma, from where several neurites emerge. Our results thus confirm previous reports and validate our quantification method.Īmong all cell types, neurons are the most morphologically complex. We have observed that Aβ increases the synthesis of neuritic proteins as well as the fraction of translating RNAs in distal sites of the neurite, suggesting an induction of local protein synthesis. Aβ is involved in the pathology of Alzheimer’s disease and was previously reported to induce local translation in axons and dendrites which in turn contributes to the disease. To test the validity of our analyses we have compared control neurons to Aβ 1 – 42-treated neurons. Colocalization between RNA and protein in neurites correspond to newly synthesized proteins arising from localized RNAs and represent localized translation sites. Objects corresponding to RNA or protein and colocalized objects (RNA and protein) are quantified along individual neurites. Resulting pixels are converted into objects and selected by automatic masking followed by signal smoothing. After imaging, signals corresponding to neuritic RNAs and proteins are filtered with a Laplacian operator to enhance the edges. Newly synthesized proteins are tagged with puromycin and endogenous RNAs labeled with SYTO. Here we describe an object-based analysis used to visualize and quantify local RNA translation sites in neurites. Thus local translation events can be easily overlooked under the microscope. For instance, in hippocampal neurons levels of newly synthesized somatic proteins can be more than 20–30 times greater than translation levels of neuritic proteins. The relevance of local protein synthesis in neuron development, maintenance and disease has not been fully acknowledged until recent years, partly due to the limited amount of locally produced proteins. Local translation confers dendrites and axons the capacity to respond to their environment in an acute manner without fully relying on somatic signals. RNA localization and localized translation are especially relevant in polarized cells like neurons where neurites extend dozens to hundreds of centimeters away from the soma. Although once considered heretical, RNA localization has proven to be highly conserved in eukaryotes. However, protein delivery can also rely on localization of mRNAs that are translated at target sites. Subcellular protein delivery is especially important in signal transduction and cell behavior, and is typically achieved by localization signals within the protein. 6IKERBASQUE Basque Foundation for Science, Bilbao, Spain.5ICVS/3B’s, PT Associate Laboratory, Universidade do Minho, Guimarães, Portugal.4Life and Health Sciences Research Institute, School of Medicine, University of Minho, Braga, Portugal.3Department of Cell Biology and Histology, Faculty of Medicine and Nursing, University of the Basque Country, Leioa, Spain.2Department of Neurosciences, Faculty of Medicine and Nursing, University of the Basque Country, Bilbao, Spain.1Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience, Leioa, Spain.Batista 1,4,5, Josune Imaz 2 and Jimena Baleriola 1,3,6* María Gamarra 1,2, Maite Blanco-Urrejola 1,2,3, Andreia F. |
